Masterchef … and the law

by Laurie Anstis on March 15, 2012

This year, for the first time, I have been watching Masterchef.

I know it’s not real life. I know it’s heavily edited. I know it’s manipulative, but I’ve loved every minute of it.

This week is the final week, spread out over three episodes.

In Tuesday’s episode, the contestants were sent to cook with three leading chefs, across the UK, Holland and Belgium. Each chef was at the top of their career, and had earned three Michelin stars for their work.

I don’t know whether or not those chefs are good business people, or nice people to know. I don’t know whether or not they have disastrous personal lives, and are terrible to their staff – but one thing that did come across is that they were absolute geniuses in the kitchen, and that being with them and learning from them was an utter delight and inspiration to the three remaining contestants in Masterchef.

With that in mind, I’d like to ask everyone reading this – is there someone who has inspired you in your career and, if so, how did they do that? If you are a lawyer, who has inspired you in your work? If you are in HR, who has inspired you in your work, and what was it about them and their approach that was so inspirational? Please let me know in the comments. There is no need to name names if you don’t want to, but I’d like to know what it was about that person that so inspired you in your work.
